Maneater

Recent events and the song "Maneater" by Daryl Hall and John Oates are my inspiration. If you don't know the song, go to YouTube. Dedicated to all those Maneaters out there - past, present and future.

Here's a taste of the lyrics:

"Oh oh, here she comes.
Watch out boy she'll chew you up.
Oh oh, here she comes.
 I wouldn't if I were you
I know what she can do.
She's deadly, man, she could really rip your world apart,
Mind over matter.
Ooh, the beauty is there but a beast is in the heart.
Oh oh, here she comes."

Now here's my version of the story in poetic form of sorts...
Oh boy, you're looking at me.
You're givin me that look, the one that tells me that you want me.
I see you lookin.
I let you get so close to me.
You're so close to me but not close enough.
Yeah, there's fire and there's heat. I know you feel it too.
But, honey, I'll only break your heart.
I know I should let you go and tell you to run and find a nice girl.
I'm not that girl.
You're so close to me but not close enough,
I'll only break your heart.

You're giving me that look, the one that tells me you're in love with me.
I let you get so close to me,
but only so close - not close enough.
Not close enough that you see me.
No, not close enough that it matters.
Because I know, I'll only break your heart.

Oh boy, but you're lookin at me.
Oh and it feels so good!
Maybe I'll let you see me, just a little bit of me.
Maybe I won't really break your heart.
Oh boy. He's lookin at me...Too late.
I already broke your heart.
I'm so sorry, dear, that I didn't warn you right.
You got so close to me...

Just not close enough to make it matter.
And I did what I knew all along,
I broke your heart and moved onto my next victim.
I know I should warn him, learn from you.
Oh but it feels so good when he looks at me.
Oh boy, I'll only break your heart.
